I see a lot of people out there thinking that distributing flyers and giving out some cards is enough to win the company’s first customers and succeed. I always said, “guys, do not underestimate the power of a good marketing strategy”. But, incredible as it may seem, they still don’t listen to me and invent hacks to get their new companies out there.
I was thinking about it this morning and decided to write this post telling what I did to put together my company’s first marketing strategy and generate the first sales. These are basic and essential steps for any company that is looking to stand out in the market and you will certainly be able to implement them in yours. Prepared? So let’s go.
Never ignore the importance of planning
In marketing, having a plan is also essential to get your strategy off the ground. When I started to undertake, I would never have been able to succeed with my company’s publicity actions without a Marketing Plan to guide me. Without it, I might have been shooting all over the place, spending a lot of money on a lot of advertising to get a few customers.
This step is essential to serve as the basis for all your strategies, now and in the future. It will help you define exactly what needs to be done, when, and how. This makes it much easier to start promoting yourself to the market. And the best: it can be used for any type of company, from the largest to the smallest.
Define who your brand is
Imagine if you went around talking about yourself to a bunch of people without even really knowing who you are. Sounds clueless, doesn’t it? You probably wouldn’t know very well what to say, each person would see you differently and in the end, everything would go wrong. Because that’s what your company will look like if it doesn’t define an identity before it starts getting out to the world.
When I talk about identity, I’m talking exactly about defining who your company is. What are your characteristics? What makes her unique? What are the differentiators of your products and services? Imagine how much easier it is to talk about yourself after answering these questions. You will be able to properly introduce the company to other people and will much more easily convince them to close a deal.
Know your audience in depth
Click is no fool! When I put my first marketing action into practice, I wanted to know exactly who I was going to talk to so I wouldn’t go around throwing things to the wind. And I can tell you that I was successful because of that. You can do that too, just take the time to know your audience.
Your audience cannot be “everyone”, because not everyone will want to buy your product (if you have the formula to be able to sell to all types of people, let me know). That’s why it’s important to define more precisely who is the type of person who is most likely to be interested in what your company offers. These are what your marketing strategy should focus on.
Set goals for your company
And last but not least, having goals is indispensable for any business. When I had just started my business, I had a goal of getting a certain number of clients by the end of the first year (I won’t count how many so as not to scare you). I may not have made it, but you can be sure that what got me almost there was to focus on the goal. With her in mind, I tried to understand what needed to be done to reach her, where it was best to advertise my company, how much I would have to spend to win new customers, and everything else. After all, there is no way to follow a path without knowing where you want to go, whether in marketing, business, or life.
I hope my tips have helped you better understand everything your first marketing strategy needs to be successful. Remember that I’m here to help you with any questions or problems you may have. Just leave a comment and I’ll get back to you soon!
